Workshop Series
Adam Linder
Class in Session
März - Juni 2026
Class in Session, a performance workshop series conceived by Adam Linder as part of his 2026 residency, will take place in Callie’s Movement Studio from March to June 2026.
During his residency, Linder invites a group of peers to lead free workshops, transforming his residency into a sustained teaching platform. The series creates opportunities for fellow leaders in the field of performance while offering free training to the local community. The teachers come from a diverse range of performance backgrounds. They include Melanie Jame Wolf, Jen Rosenblit, Corey Scott Gilbert, Enad Marouf, Justin F Kennedy, and Adam Linder himself.
Free to attend, the workshops create space for shared learning and exchange at a critical moment for independent performance in Berlin. With Class in Session, Adam extends his practice into mentorship, curation, and dramaturgical support, reflecting a sustained commitment to the field of performance art.
Inaugurating the series, Linder teaches the first block titled Virtuosity is a Virtue, meeting on March 3rd, 10th, and 17th from 10am - 12pm. In this class, participants work with unrestricted improvisation, guided scores, and building written material to exercise the crosspoints between somatic, street, and codified dance languages. Participants must be available for all classes in the block. Sign-up for the first block is available here.
Adam Linder’s work is devoted to the specifics of dance and often holds a mirror up to the discipline itself. He works across multiple dance contexts, whether in the theatre or the exhibition space. The classical, the technological, the animal, the expressive, and the absurd all play a role in a politics of shapeshifting that underpins his artistic practice. Linder’s choreographies stem from a desire to simultaneously embody the strange yet beautiful aspects of dance and to reveal something about the cultural value we place on it.
He has presented solo and two-person exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney (2023); Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), New York (2020); South London Gallery (2018); Kunsthalle Basel (2017); Schinkel Pavilion, Berlin (2016); and the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London (2015). Stage works have been co-produced and presented by theatres such as HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Berlin; Kampnagel, Hamburg; deSingel, Antwerp; Sadler’s Wells, London; Dampfzentrale, Bern; and UCLA CAP / REDCAT, Los Angeles. In 2018, CCA Wattis, San Francisco presented the survey FULL SERVICE, which subsequently travelled to MUDAM, Luxembourg (2019). Linder has had commissions from Sydney Dance Company (2010); Ballet de Lorraine, Nancy (2023); and Danish Dance Theatre, Copenhagen (2024).
